Organization
Operations
With the support from the National Science Foundation, management and coordination of the National Science Digital Library for 2008-2012 is granted to the following PI teams, under the Resource Center and Technical Network Services Provider tracks of the NSDL funding program, based in the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE), Directorate for Education and Human Resources:
Resource Center
PI: Kaye Howe, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)
Co-PIs: Susan Van Gundy, Mary Marlino, UCAR
Grant #0840858: NSDL Center for Sustaining Broader Impacts
Technical Network Services:
PI: Dean Krafft, Carl Lagoze, Cornell University
Co-PIs: Mike Wright, UCAR; Tamara Sumner, University of Colorado
Grant #0840744: NSDL Technical Network Services: A Cyberinfrastructure Platform for STEM Education
The Resource Center and Technical Network Services maintain a high degree of collaboration and partnership in administering the many functions of NSDL.
The broader NSDL community of resource builders and contributors is composed of a diverse range of institutions including universities, museums, libraries, research labs, federal agencies, professional societies, and commercial content providers, many of which have received funding through the NSF NSDL Program.
Pathways
NSDL Pathways partners are core partnerships within the National Science Digital Library. Pathways provide stewardship for STEM educational content and services required by broad communities of users. These communities of users are typically audience-specific, either by discipline, education level, or via other designation such as type of resource (e.g., multimedia resources).
Transitioning from Core Integration to Resource Center and Technical Network Services
From 2000 – 2008, the former organizational management of NSDL was “Core Integration” —a collaborative partnership between UCAR, Cornell University, and Columbia University. Core Integration also received guidance from a National Visiting Committee and the NSDL Policy Committee, as well as strong community participation in Standing Committees in a variety of areas.
These respective community committees are sunsetted as of October 1, 2008. An NSDL Community Advisory Board (CAB) to both the Resource Center and Technical Network Services is targeted for startup in 2009. Nominations for membership in this group are being made by members of the former NSDL Policy Committee.
For informational and archival purposes, the wiki sites of the former Policy and Standing Committees are still available at:
NSDL Policy Committee

Educational Impact and Evaluation
Ensure evaluation principles are integrated into the design, development, and implementation of NSDL.
Sustainability
Facilitate the development of NSDL as an entity that thrives in the long-term.
Technology
Identify community technical needs and the means to translate those needs into deployable technology.
