The Educational Multimedia Visualization Center (EMVC) collection uses multimedia technology to bring geology education alive through audio-visual animations. The collection emphasizes plate tectonics but includes all aspects of Earth science. The goal is to make tacit geological knowledge explicit. As animations, the collection materials fit into a passive learning style and are thus intended to augment but not replace other teaching materials and activities.
