Metadata Description:

In this module, high-school students play the roles of EPA scientists investigating the release of heavy metal contaminants following a flood. They will use online resources to investigate the hypothetical release of heavy metals into the water supply and determine how the study of heavy metal contamination would help to plan for future chemical spills. Working in small groups, they will research various heavy metals, complete an investigation chart, and create a community action plan to deal with the contamination. Worksheets for collecting and organizing information are provided, and there are also assessment materials and a teacher's guide with standards alignments.
