Announcing the new NSDL Community Network site
NSDL has matured into a network rich in expertise and potential. While these connections are valuable, networks of networks also mean layers of complexity, resulting in lots of questions: Where do I go to find out what others are doing at a greater depth? Who do I talk to about a particular problem I’m having? Who is doing similar work right now on their project? What collaborative tools can we use to pool our resources on a particular task?
The NSDL Resource Center has created the Community Network site for the broader community of NSDL partners, stakeholders, collaborators, users, and contributors to share ideas and to communicate with one another on a centralized platform. The site is home to:
- 2009 NSDL Annual Meeting information and registration
- Community Network news contribution and publication
- Professional development and outreach news
- Calendar of events
- Discussion forums/blogs
- Group workspaces
- Personalized account creation enabling users to customize their own 'dashboard' of news, participation, and dissemination
The Community Network site coincides with this year's NSDL Annual Meeting, allowing the site to be used as a starting point for disseminating and sharing information. This year's meeting, From Digital Libraries to Cyberlearning will be held on Nov 17-19, 2009 in Washington D.C. For more information, go to http://nsdlnetwork.org/annual_meeting.
Access to general information on the site is available to the public, while registered members of the site can also contribute content and have access to sections solely intended for members.
The Community Network site is built on a Drupal content management system, offering a cost-effective and flexible platform for NSDL community networking, discussion of issues, project updates, trends reporting in STEM education, supporting the information needs of NSDL-funded projects. Future planning includes RSS feed subscription and dissemination of NSDL news and information, as the site matures with use. For more information, contact us.
