| Collection Name: | Teachers' Domain: Multimedia Resources for the Classroom and Professional Development
|
|---|
| Collection Description: | Teachers Domain is a multimedia library for K-12 science educators, developed by WGBH through funding from the National Science Foundation as part of its National Science Digital Library initiative. The site offers a wealth of classroom-ready instructional resources, as well as online professional development materials and a set of tools that allow teachers to manage, annotate, and share materials. Through the Teachers Domain initiative, WGBH was able to reformat and deliver content from its award-winning science library, including content from NOVA, A Science Odyssey, Evolution, and other programs. WGBH staff added background articles, new lesson plans, interactives, images, and other types of resources to round out the multimedia library. Each classroom resource is correlated to state and national science standards. The professional development content includes video of teachers modeling best practices in their classroom instruction; interviews with educators reflecting on effective classroom strategies; and online courses in development for elementary science educators. The "My Resources" feature on the site allows users to save, annotate, and share particular pieces of multimedia content they've found in their site searches. Teachers might organize resources according to class period, by student groups, or by units of study in the yearlong school curriculum. Users can grant others in their school permission to view their resource folders. |

| Collection Name: | ComPADRE: Resources for Physics and Astronomy Education
|
|---|
| Collection Description: | ComPADRE is a set of communities of teachers and students in physics and astronomy and web-based collections of resources to support their needs. The communities supported by ComPADRE are groups that can benefit from the sharing of materials, information, and experiences in a web environment. Example communities include teachers of specific physics or astronomy courses, societies of undergraduate physics and astronomy students, and teachers addressing specific grade levels, such as high-school or middle-school teachers. Resources included in the collections are chosen to enhance the teaching and learning experience, and include multimedia learning objects, lesson plans, tutorials, laboratories and other student activities, and discussion forums on the use of these materials. The different collections are organized under the ComPADRE umbrella, which provides a central database (the Physical Sciences Resource Center), technical support, support for collection editors and community leaders, and the means to coordinate efforts across the communities. |

| Collection Name: | DLESE: Digital Library for Earth System Education
|
|---|
| Collection Description: | DLESE's mission is to improve the quality, quantity, and efficiency of teaching and learning about the Earth System, by developing, managing, and providing access to high-quality educational resources and supporting services through a community-based, distributed digital library. Intended users include students, educators and citizens of all ages, in both formal and informal learning environments. The collection favors resources that convey linkages and connections; the general with the specific, theory with evidence, global with local, and that demonstrate the application of science to solving real world problems. This includes providing access to Earth data sets and imagery, and the tools and interfaces that enable their effective use. DLESE resources are community-contributed, by individuals, organizations, and formal collection efforts. |
