The purpose of this resource is to have students develop a qualitative understanding of the characteristics and patterns of seasons and highlight the relationship of seasons to physical, biological and cultural markers. Students observe and record seasonal changes in their local study site. They establish that these phenomena follow annual cycles and conclude the activity by creating displays that illustrate the repeating pattern associated with the appearance and disappearance of seasonal markers.

| Description | The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) collection is an environmental science collection supporting an authentic scientifically rigorous program of Earth observations and measurements taken by students in partnership with scientists. Currently, the collection is composed mainly of teachers' guides, field guides and classroom activities that engage teachers and students in measuring protocols of different environmental variables like temperature, optical thickness, cloud cover, ozone, precipitation and water vapor. Field guides provide step-by-step instructions for data collection. Teacher materials provide instructional strategies and assessments for evaluating student progress. Activities are hands-on learning opportunities. Student resources in the collection support the National Science Education Standards. |

MSP2 employs social networking and digital tools to foster dynamic experiences that promote creation, modification, and sharing of resources, facilitate professional development, and support the integration of technology into practice. MSP2 is a project of the Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology, National Middle School Association, and Education Development Center, Inc., and is funded by the National Science Foundation.
