Andrew Rader Studios' Chem 4 Kids website has greatly expanded since Scout's first report on the site in 1997. The website, directed towards children, now covers topics in reactions, atoms, matter, and biochemistry along with elements. Within each topic, users can find simple, concise explanations and examples of numerous concepts. For instance, in the Atoms link, students can learn about structure, ions, bonding, compounds, naming, and isotopes. The website also offers simple tutorials on units, symbols, and constants. While users are directed to a fee-based website for activities, the images and descriptions of chemicals and chemical reactions offer great examples of how chemistry influences our everyday world.

Using this resource
| Teaching tip | - I designed a web quest for my students to follow as they navigated through the Chem4Kids website. This strategy allowed me to focus my students on the key concepts needed for the remainder of my instructional unit.

| Description | The Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) mission is to improve the quality, quantity, and efficiency of teaching and learning about the Earth System, by developing, managing, and providing access to high-quality educational resources and supporting services through a community-based, distributed digital library. Intended users include students, educators and citizens of all ages, in both formal and informal learning environments. The collection favors resources that convey linkages and connections; the general with the specific, theory with evidence, global with local, and that demonstrate the application of science to solving real world problems. This includes providing access to Earth data sets and imagery, and the tools and interfaces that enable their effective use. DLESE resources are community-contributed, by individuals, organizations, and formal collection efforts. |

| Description | The Middle School Portal 2: Math and Science Pathways (MSP2) supports middle grades educators with high-quality, standards-based resources and promotes collaboration and knowledge-sharing among its users. Educators use MSP2 to increase content knowledge in science, mathematics, and appropriate pedagogy for youth ages 10 to 15. MSP2 employs social networking and digital tools to foster dynamic experiences that promote creation, modification, and sharing of resources, facilitate professional development, and support the integration of technology into practice. MSP2 is a project of the Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology, National Middle School Association, and Education Development Center, Inc., and is funded by the National Science Foundation. The partners integrate resources, tools, and services across projects, and support multiple methods of resource discovery to meet the needs of this audience. |

MATTER | ATOMS | PERIODIC TABLE | ELEMENTS 1-36 REACTIONS | BIOCHEMISTRY | ET CETERA WELCOME TO CHEM4KIDS Thanks for visiting! Right now, you're on CHEM4KIDS.COM. If you are looking for basic chemistry information, stay on this site. It's not just for kids, it's for everyone. We have information on matter, atoms, elements, the periodic table, reactions, and biochemistry. If you're still not sure what to click, try our site map that lists all of the topics on the site. If you surf and get lost in all of the information, use the search function on the side of the pages. OKAY! As we have for ten years, let's start here... So you're asking, what is CHEMISTRY? Well... Here's our best definition. Chemistry is the study of MATTER and the changes that take place with that matter. Don't ask us why that matters. It just does. A lot. Everything on Earth, everything in our solar system, everything in our galaxy, and everything in the universe is made up of matter. Matter is the name that scientists have given to everything that you can touch, or see, or feel, or smell. Go take a look! That's it for the introduction. Now its up to you to click and have fun! Chem4Kids.com is one of many free science sites developed by the team that made Biology4Kids, Geography4Kids, Cosmos4Kids, or Physics4Kids. We even have a math site called NumberNut.com. Now it's time for you to dive into our chemistry pages and start learning. Remember, the site offers an introduction to the science of chemistry. If you're not into graphics like home page image above, check out the site map where we list all of the pages of the site for you. Start clicking and have fun! You can also use this search tool (powered by Google) that will check our site for the chemistry information you need. Just type in a keyword or phrase and click the search button. The search will look at all of the 4KIDS science sites. Custom Search ** Andrew Rader Studios does not monitor or review the content available at these web sites.
