| Resource Title: | MathDL: Digital Classroom Resources
|
|---|
| Description: | With an increased focus on the importance of teaching mathematics throughout the education system in the United States, the discovery of this fine online collection of resources is most welcome. Developed by the Mathematical Association of America (with substantial support from the National Science Foundation), the site contains hundreds of classroom materials that have been extensively tested and reviewed by peers in the field. On the site's homepage visitors can look through some of their ???Featured Items???, which range from interactive linear algebra exercises to open source components that can be added to course websites. Visitors who know what they are looking for should use the search engine to move through the materials by subject or category. Additionally, users can also submit their own mathematical teaching tools to the site???s editor for consideration. |

These materials have been classroom tested and peer reviewed. Many items in the library are posted with editorial reviews and a link to a moderated discussion group focused on the materials. Featured Items: 3D Plotter with PaperVision3D and Flex This Flash Forum entry provides instructions and source code for a simple 3D plotter using PaperVision3D in Flex. The basis of the applet is ActionScript 3. The tutorial is composed of two videos and links to supporting files. Flash CS3 Mathlet: Motion in 3D Space The Flash Forum resource shows velocity and acceleration vectors for an arbitrary parametric curve in space, and provides built in examples. Flash source code is provided. Simple 3D Drawing This Flash Forum tutorial not only discusses the programming involved in rendering simple polyhedra in Flash CS3, but it also gives an elementary discussion of the mathematics behind 3D rendering on a 2D computer screen. Flash Tools for Developers: 3D Graphers in ActionScript 3 This article describes classes for 3D graphing revised for AS 3. Along with class files and documentation, we provide several templates to show how to use the classes for graphs of functions of two variables as well as parametrically defined surfaces. Flash Fractal Maker Useful for teaching as well as artistic endeavors, this applet allows the user to build a "seed" for a recursive process that constructs complex and fascinating fractal images. Actionscript 3 Tutorials A collection of mathematics applets with full documentation and source code for beginning users of Adobe Flash. This collection is part of the MathDL Flash Forum. MathDL Flash Forum A forum for educators interested in developing mathematics classroom material using Adobe Flash. Biological ESTEEM Excel Simulations and Tools for Exploratory, Experiential Mathematics (ESTEEM) is a project of the members of the BioQuest Curriculum Consortium.
