Resource Title:Sources of fuel don't have to be fossil fuels
Description:This November 7, 2007 entry in the NSDL Expert Voices blog Connecting News with National Science Education Standards deals with finding reliable alternate sources of energy from the activities of live microbes. Microbes conduct oxidation-reactions from which the energy associated with electrons being transferred can be harnessed to synthesize hydrogen which in turn can be used as a fuel source free of carbon, unlike fossil fuels. Additional links to teaching resources related to climate change, the nature of science, the carbon cycle, and process skills are provided.
