Resource Title:Studying Genomes: From the Lab to the Classroom
Description:This web seminar, sponsored by the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), will introduce teachers in grades 7-12 to genetic research and the new science of genomics. As genetic mapping of increasing numbers of species is accomplished, new insights have arisen that point to the amazingly diverse life existing on our planet. Such research allows scientists to map the evolutionary relationships among organisms and to use that knowledge for many new applications. Dr. Robert DeSalle, curator of the Sackler Institute for Comparative Genomics, will guide participants through new developments in genomic research and present resources from the American Museum of Natural History which can be used to enrich curricula and incorporate this new field of research into the classroom.
