Project Iceberg is the education and outreach site for ANDRILL (ANtarctic geologic DRILLing), a research project to drill and recover cores of sedimentary rock from the sea floor beneath the McMurdo Ice Shelf in order to construct a history of paleoenvironmental changes that will guide understanding of the scope, speed, and frequency of glacial and interglacial changes in Antarctica. The site features videos, photographs, and blogs documenting the project. A set of multimedia interactives lets users meet the members of the team, study the history of exploration in Antarctica, learn about ANDRILL drilling technology, and observe the accumulation and melting of ice sheets and ice shelves. A set of video journals features team members at work and interviews with personnel, and a photo gallery presents images of team members and scenes of the Antarctic landscape. Some team members operate blogs to keep users informed about what is happening on the ice, and there is also an educators page which features links to lessons, activities, and other resources about Antarctica.

| Description | The Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) mission is to improve the quality, quantity, and efficiency of teaching and learning about the Earth System, by developing, managing, and providing access to high-quality educational resources and supporting services through a community-based, distributed digital library. Intended users include students, educators and citizens of all ages, in both formal and informal learning environments. The collection favors resources that convey linkages and connections; the general with the specific, theory with evidence, global with local, and that demonstrate the application of science to solving real world problems. This includes providing access to Earth data sets and imagery, and the tools and interfaces that enable their effective use. DLESE resources are community-contributed, by individuals, organizations, and formal collection efforts. |

Join us on our continuing research journey in Antarctica! Here, you can follow ANDRILL, an international team of researchers in Antarctica. We are drilling rock cores to obtain a geologic record of the continent. This record allows us to look back in time to see how conditions on Earth have changed over millions of years. Meet the ARISE team- 8 educators from the United States, Italy, Germany, and New Zealand, who are working with the scientists in Antarctica. We would all love to hear from you! Keep in touch as we investigate the secrets in the rocks beneath Antarctica's icy blanket. Would you like to join us? Explore blogs, videos, photos, and postcards from the field! © 2007-2009 by ANDRILL.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 United States License.
