The National Science Education Standards were published in 1996 with the intent of helping our nation's students achieve science literacy. They outline what students at different grade ranges need to know, understand, and be able to do to be considered scientifically literate. The fundamental understandings used to develop the lesson objectives in More Picture-Perfect Science Lessons were adapted from the "Guide to the Content Standards" sections of the National Science Education Standards, which describes the fundamental ideas that underlie the Standards.
