|
|---|
| Description: | This simple activity is designed to show students what yeast does to make bread rise. As yeast breaks down sugar, it releases carbon dioxide gas that, in this activity, inflates a balloon. Included are pictures of the activity, a list of materials, and a five step set of instructions that students can follow at home with adult supervision or at school. Introductory paragraphs describe what yeast is and how it acts as a leavening agent. A brief explanation of what occurred in the activity and how it relates to bread making is also provided. A final section suggests two investigations that can extend this activity. The activity also contains guiding questions and a temperature chart.
