| Description: | This publication about energy transfers and energy transformations features hand-selected online resources for middle school science teachers. An introduction notes the ubiquitous nature of energy movements and conversions and clarifies the difference between the transfer and the transformation of energy. Featured resources fall into two categories: background information and activities. Teaching tips and descriptions of each resource are offered. The audience (teacher or student) is noted for the background information resources. The activities are hands-on and are sorted under three content headings--energy transformations, potential and kinetic energy, and heat transfer. Also included are excerpts from the National Science Education Standards that relate to the study of energy in middle school. The featured resources come from collections in the National Science Digital Library (NSDL). Links are provided to the original collections and to catalog records further describing each resource.
