Its Mathematics Pathway and Science Pathway present standards-based publications that take an in-depth look at teachable concepts in math and science. All resources are examined with the following criteria in mind: content of the resource is accurate; it promotes student learning; it aligns with one or more national math and/or science education standards; it is grade-level appropriate; it promotes equity and access; and the resource is easily navigable. A blog called Connecting News to National Science Education Standards encourages science teachers to integrate current events into their instruction. Users can also search or browse by subject lists and register to be notified when new content is posted to the site. The communities supported by ComPADRE are groups that can benefit from the sharing of materials, information, and experiences in a web environment. Example communities include teachers of specific physics or astronomy courses, societies of undergraduate physics and astronomy students, and teachers addressing specific grade levels, such as high-school or middle-school teachers. Resources included in the collections are chosen to enhance the teaching and learning experience, and include multimedia learning objects, lesson plans, tutorials, laboratories and other student activities, and discussion forums on the use of these materials. The different collections are organized under the ComPADRE umbrella, which provides a central database (the Physical Sciences Resource Center), technical support, support for collection editors and community leaders, and the means to coordinate efforts across the communities. Participation is free with registration. Students measure daily temperature, record the number of minutes of sunlight per day, and submit their data online. The web site contains tools for data comparison and storage. Students graph and analyze results, then share conclusions about causes of global temperature variation in a final report submitted to the website. Included are detailed project instructions, a teacher guide, reference material, and a student discussion forum.
