Collection Branding Guidelines
Collection brands or logos are icons that are associated with a collection. The purpose of the collection brand is to provide identity to a collection and the items within that collection. The image requirements for the brand are listed below as well as how NSDL uses the collection brand.
Brand Image Requirements
- Logos or brand icons are designated by the collection builder who provides metadata records to NSDL
- A logo is required in order to register and complete the Submit a Collection form
- Logos must not exceed 100 pixels in width and 30 pixels in height
- Images should be provided as gif, png, or jpg
- If a logo contains a tag line of more than one to three words of descriptive text it will not be readable in 100x30 dimensions and should be edited
- Verify that your logo is readable and looks they way you expect by viewing the logo in a browser.
- Reduce extensive vertical or horizontal logos or use a partial view of a logo to make the logo view well in NSDL
- Only one logo is allowed per collection; collections may not be sub-divided for the purpose of branding
- Logos may be changed or replaced as needed
How NSDL Uses the Collection Brand
- In the absence of a collection brand, a generic, NSDL-provided logo is used
- Any logos that are larger or smaller than the 100x30 dimensions will be stretched or reduced to the 100x30 dimension
- Logos are generally only displayed in search results on NSDL.org
